I'm offering a rare book titled "Bank and Train Robbers Of The West" published in 1884 by Belford, Clarke and Co. The title page states: "Train and Bank Robbers of the West; a romantic but faithful story of bloodshed and plunder. Perpetrated by Missouri's daring outlaws. A thrilling story of the adventures and exploits of Frank and Jesse James, Missouri's twin wraiths of robbery and murder. Containing a complete sketch of the romance of guerrilla warfare, together with a graphic and detailed account of the robberies and murders of twenty years and the last daring feats of the James' confederacy in the robbery and murder on the Rock Island train, July 14th, 1881 and at Glendale, Mo. Sept 17, 1881 to which is added an account of the tragic end of Jesse James, shot by a confederate, April 3, 1882. Together with a record of the wild and reckless career of the Younger Brothers, now incarcerated in the penitentiary at Stillwater, Minn." This book was published just 2 years after Jesse James was killed. Overall book condition is fair- cover is heavily worn and has moderate/heavy soiling. Inside, the title page is tattered along the bottom edge (please see all pics). Interestingly, at some point a bookworm made a little hole in the text block, affecting the bottom lower corners of a few pages. (see pics). Pages have age related darkened around the edges. All pages are present including the frontispiece illustration of Jesse James after death-which is commonly missing from the few remaining copies of this book. There are a few other illustrations in the text-black and white sketches. Total 285 pages. Please see all pictures for condition.
