Signed at the beginning of the book by both of this sons, Jack Benton and Edward Benton. In good condition. Binding is good. Pages have some yellowing due to age. Has what appears to be a handmade plastic wrap around cover. One page has a rip at the bottom, see photos for details. Richard Summers, the introducer of this volume, befriended eighty-year old Jesse James Benton, who was living south of Tucson, Arizona, where Richard Summers lived and worked. The story of Benton's life was told to Mr. Summers, a very capable writer. This book tells that story. Summers said, "I have read all sorts of material both in manuscript and in published form on the early West, and Mr. Benton's story seems to occupy a place by itself in its originality of tone and material. In my opinion, it is very near to a classic"
